EMS Education and Recruitment

Education and recruitment opportunities in the SPARC coverage area are part of a Rural Emergency Medical Services Training Grant.  "The purpose of this program is to recruit and train EMS personnel in rural areas with a particular focus on addressing substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring disorders (COD) substance use and mental disorders. SAMHSA recognizes the great need for emergency services in rural areas and the critical role EMS personnel serve across the country." 

Career Fair 2025

Moving forward, EMS personal in rural Southern Illinois, will have opportunities to receive training on substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.  Personnel will become better providers for our community, part of a trauma-informed workforce, providing recovery-based care in emergency situations.  

Youth in rural Southern Illinois will be introduced to careers in emergency services.  Opportunities will be explored to provide courses in CPR, Stop The Bleed and Emergency Medical Responder, to high school students.  This project aims to bring students graduating high school into college and EMS system supported EMT programs.
